Jake E. Lee Says Motley Crue Wanted Him to Replace Mick Mars

I was pretty shocked to hear this tale. Guitarist Jake E. Lee claims that there was a period in time when Motley Crue wanted him to join their band.

Speaking with Tone Talk, Lee said that he was hanging at Motley Crue shows, and "Nikki [Sixx] and Tommy [Lee] wanted me in the band. They actually wanted me to replace Mick — which you can understand that..."

Lee added there was even some talk about having two guitar players in Motley Crue. Obviously, none of these things happened.

"Whether somebody denies it or not, that's what started the rift between me and Mick," Lee said.

Lee went on to say that Mars was "probably what they (Motley Crue) needed to get big." He added, "They wouldn't have been as big with me. Musically, they might have been better."

Mick is such an integral part of the Crue. Glad this didn't happen! XO -Anne Erickson
