The 1975 Drop Aggressive New Song, Music Video For "People"

The 1975 have embraced the punk rock influences that always simmered beneath the surface on its new song "People," released Thursday afternoon.

The band has been teasing the new single for some time now with stills from the dramatic music video. About an hour before "People" appeared online, the band revealed the song's caustic lyrics via social media.

While the hard rocking, fuzz-faced embrace of "People" is a sonic departure for the U.K.-based, the song's lament of modern culture in its lyrics is true to form.

Singer Matty Healy sounds as though he's screaming himself hoarse with a diatribe against willful ignorance, laziness and the anxiety that comes with it.

There's even a shot taken against Amazon with the lines, "I don't like going outside so bring me everything here."

"People" is the second track the band has released from its upcoming album, Notes On A Conditional Form, due early next year. The prior track "The 1975," includes the voice of climate activist Greta Thunberg urging action against the coming global climate crisis.

Whereas "The 1975" isn't subtle in its call to action, there's no mistaking the sense of urgency the band is trying to convey on "People."
