An unnamed woman from Glasgow, Scotland was hoping to get relief from dry eyes when she was mistakenly given a prescription creme for erectile dysfunction. The woman suffered an ocular chemical injury which symptoms include eye pain, blurred vision, redness and a swollen eyelid. Instead of getting VitA-POS, which is an eye ointment used to treat dry eyes and corneal erosions, she was given Vitaros, a topical cream to treat ED. The error occurred between her general practitioner and pharmacist, apparently the pharmacist had trouble reading the doctors handwriting. She was treated with topical antibiotics, steroids and lubricants and is having a good response.
