Of all the classic props from movies, few are as iconic as the leg lamp from “A Christmas Story.” In Chickasha, Oklahoma, a 50-foot recreation of the lamp has been displayed for all to see and is now a permanent fixture in the town. Chickasha native Noland James passed away in 2020 at the age of 89, and he believed that the lamp in the movie was inspired by a prototype he’d created. As the story goes, while working at a local university, a man looking for work came in and was “tantalized” by Noland’s lamp prototype. A few years later, according to the story, that same man ended up on the production team for “A Christmas Story.”
