Former Cy Young Award winner Trevor Bauer is now a man without a team. Following allegations of sexual assault, Bauer had been suspended for 324 games. Two weeks ago, that suspension was shortened to 194, which reinstated him…but with docked pay to start the 2023 season. That reinstatement also gave the Los Angeles Dodgers 14 days to decide if Bauer would be on their 40-man roster. He won’t be. Bauer’s been “designated for assignment,” which gives the Dodgers until 2:00 pm ET Thursday to find a trade partner. If they can’t find one, then Bauer will be placed on “unconditional release waivers.” Once he clears those, which seems likely, Bauer will become a free agent the next day.
As for Bauer, he claims the Dodgers organization told him “they wanted me to return and pitch for the team this year.” He says he’s “disappointed” with the decision, but “appreciates the wealth of support I’ve received from the Dodgers clubhouse” and he “looks forward to competing elsewhere.”
