Back in November, the entire country was lotto-crazy at the prospect of winning the $2.04 billion jackpot. In the end, one man got to claim that prize money for his own…Edwin Castro. Jose Rivera, however, has something to say about that. Rivera has filed a lawsuit claiming that he’s the one that bought the winning ticket, but it was “stolen” from him.
- Rivera says a man calling himself “Reggie” stole the ticket “the day he bought it.”
- After the numbers were drawn, it tried to “get Reggie to return the ticket,” but Reggie said the ticket “wasn’t the winner,” but he’d “agree to give up half if he found” it.
- “Refusing to be blackmailed,” Rivera then alerted the California Lottery and local authorities.
- The lawsuit lists both Castro and “Reggie” as defendants.
As for the California Lottery, they’re “not authorized to investigate criminal activity,” and they say Castro remains the winner of the jackpot. Should they be contacted by law enforcement, however, they’d be happy to cooperate.
