David Eden Fett, 55, was arrested Sunday morning and charged with domestic battery by strangulation and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly threatening his girlfriend with a machete.
An Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the residence shared by Fett and the victim at about 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning, where the victim reportedly told the deputy that Fett had pushed her into the toilet while choking her, resulting in a large knot on her head. She said he then picked up a machete and said, “If I am going back to prison, I am going to make it worth it.”
The victim reportedly said she was afraid he would attack her with the machete, but instead he left. She called 911, but he returned before the deputy arrived. When the deputy arrived, Fett was taken into custody, and the victim was transported to the hospital.
Fett has three felony convictions and has served two prison sentences, with his most recent release in 2020; in 2015, he was charged with six felonies after an incident in which he allegedly threatened a woman with a hatchet. He entered a plea of nolo contendere to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a lesser included charge, in exchange for five years in prison and the other charges being dropped. Fett is now designated as a Career Offender.
Judge Thomas Jaworski set bail at $200,000.
