A Little League program in New Jersey is taking a stand against unruly parents who feel the need to yell at umpires. A new rule has been put in place by a South Jersey Little League organization that’ll force out-of-line parents to become volunteer umpires if they try to get into it with umpires in the name of their kids. The rule is simple: “If you fight with umps, you have to volunteer your time to umpire three games before you’re allowed back as a spectator.” The thought is that it’ll force mouthy parents to put their money where their mouths are and realize that it’s just not that easy. For accuracy’s sake, a certified ump will also be on-hand to make sure the parental calls are correct. Going into the season, parents like the idea…we’ll have to see how they feel once the season ends.
