Authorities on Friday night are investigating after a man walked into The Cheesecake Factory at Fashion Valley Mall with a gunshot wound to his leg, police said.
Police received a call around 10 p.m. about the incident at 7067 Friars Road, the San Diego Police Department (SDPD) said in a release.
According to law enforcement, the victim was sitting in his vehicle when an unknown man opened the driver-side door and pointed a firearm at him, demanding his belongings. The victim handed over his money and cell phone to the suspect.
The victim then attempted to disarm the suspect, SDPD said. During the struggle, the firearm discharged, striking the victim in the upper left thigh.
He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The victim’s current condition is not known at this time.
The suspect, described as a 20 to 30-year-old man, fled the scene following the incident, according to SDPD. He was last seen wearing a dark beanie, dark shirt and dark pants.
An arrest has not yet been made in connection to the robbery, law enforcement said.
Authorities assured the public that the Cheesecake Factory area is now safe.
