Surveillance video seemingly caught the moment when a customer at a Miami pet shop walked off with Pepe, a baby marmoset monkey worth thousands.
According to a report from WPLG, the incident happened at Robert's Pet Shop in Homestead on Friday afternoon.
Store owner Lazaro Sardinas shared the store's security camera footage which shows the moment the alleged thief plucked the 5-week-old marmoset out of the cage he shared with its brother, Juan.
"We reviewed the surveillance video camera and we see her coming over and grabbing, tucking the monkey, and just walking straight out the front door with it," he said, demonstrating her actions.
Sardinas told WPLG that the woman was a regular customer at the store, and had been shopping there for over a decade. "I would never think it would've been her," he said.
Store employees told WSVN they have moved Juan out of the cage and into a "safe place" for the time being. The monkeys are each worth about $7,000.
While the store knows the identity of the woman on the surveillance video, she was not able to be found and the police are seeking her out.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the pet store or Miami-Dade police.
