Over this summer, there’s been no shortage of “see how hot it is” stories floating around. Normally, they involve things like cooking eggs on the pavement. In Kansas, John Veesart put a new spin on it. On Sunday, the thermometer hit 108 degrees, so Veesart took the opportunity to whip out his iron skillet, some aluminum foil, and a box of cornbread mix. The skillet hit 180 degrees, and the cornbread “cooked all the way through with a slight crust, but it didn’t brown.” Of course, Veesart did the obligatory taste test, which confirmed you can cook quality cornbread in that kind of heat.
