For many parts of the country, winter storms are coming. That means stores filled with people preparing to ride out the snow by buying crap they probably won’t even need. To help you out, here is a professionally put-together list to make your shopping trip more streamlined and effective. Just plan your quantities based on the amount of weather you’re expecting to get hit with.
High Protein and Non-Perishable Foods – Energy bars and protein bars, dry cereal, granola, peanut butter, dried fruit, etc.
Canned Goods – Ready-to-eat meats, fruits, vegetables, soups, and the like
Water – At least three days’ worth is a good play
Plastic Bags/Containers – Good for perishable foods
Disposable Plates and Utensils – You’ll be glad you have them if there’s no power and your water lines freeze up
Baby and Pet Food – Unless you don’t have a baby or pet, obviously
Hygiene Products – Wet wipes, toilet paper, feminine products, hand sanitizer, etc.
Emergency Kit – You should always have one anyway because accidents happen
Also, try taking a picture of what’s in your fridge, so you can limit the amount of time it’s open in case the power goes out. Having an emergency kit in your car isn’t the worst idea in the world, either, including food, blankets, water, flares, and an extra set of clothes…just in case.
