A family in DeLand experienced a terrifying ordeal on Sunday afternoon when bullets began flying into their home.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office said (VSO) said the family quickly took cover and called 911 for help. Body camera video documents when deputies arrived at the home on Evergreen Trace at 12:30 p.m.
"My girl and my son are in the bathroom laying down," one of the victims said after the bullets struck the home. The adults and children were evacuated from the home, and deputies began to search the area for the shooter, the sheriff's office said.
After a brief search, it was discovered that theshooter turned out to be an intoxicated neighbor on nearby Virginia Avenue who was shooting at a tree in his backyard, the news release stated.
When deputies confronted 38-year-oldAlex Kudlack he told them, "Yeah, I'm a dumb***."
Kudlack was arrested and booked into the Volusia County Jail for:
1 count of shooting into a dwelling
1 count of using a firearm while under the influence
2 counts of child endangerment
1 count of criminal mischief
