Man Accused of Processing Horse Meat For Human Consumption

Earlier this month in Florida, police executed a search warrant for the house of 39 year old Lazaro Rodriguez looking for stolen property. While they were there, they found several packages of meats in the kitchen and laundry room, some in different states of defrosting. The meats were found in refrigerators, freezers, and sinks. He told the police that they were pork, chicken legs, pork empanadas covered in banana leaves, and beef, but no horse. One detective found one package that said caballo which is Spanish for horse. After testing came back, it showed it was indeed horse meat. He was taken in then released and expected to be in court in late May.
