A 12-year-old boy on a Boy Scout trip to the sand dunes at Van Buren Park on Michigan was buried alive in a sand dune. According to reports, he was digging a hole in the side of a sand dune, got inside and the sand collapsed on top of him. His friends, who were nearby didn't notice for up to 30 minutes. Authorities arrived, as troop leaders were pulling him out of the sand and attempting to resuscitate him. He was airlifted to a hospital but pronounced dead.
