A man in Portland loosened his harness and fell a mile to his death, while his tandem student landed safely. The head of the US Parachute Association said that this event was unheard of. The Association said that the instructor loosened securing straps, including on his legs, after the tandem parachute he wore was opened. He landed 750 feet from the runway that they took off from.
