Amid a new COVID-19 outbreak, China is turning to anal swab testing for more accurate results. Newsweek reports the practice, which was reserved for coronavirus hotspots, is now being used more frequently following the discovery of cases involving the contagious UK variant. The swab is typically inserted up to two inches inside the rectum. Health officials say the virus survives longer in the digestive tract and feces so these tests increase the rate of detection.
