Arizona Reportedly Bringing Back Gas Chamber For Executions

The state of Arizona is apparently preparing to use a "refurbished" gas chamber to execute some future death row inmates. The Guardian reports the state's Department of Corrections has spent two-thousand dollars to obtain ingredients similar to Zyklon B, a lethal gas used by Nazis at concentration camps like Auschwitz. Documents also indicate officials have used primitive test methods like a flickering candle to make sure a gas chamber in Florence can be used. The chamber has not been in use for 22 years, but it has now been declared "operationally ready." Walter LaGrand, the last person gassed in the state in 1991, reportedly spent 18 minutes agonizingly "choking and gagging."
