Doctor, Patient Charged In Prescription Fraud Scheme

Authorities have charged a Michigan doctor and a patient in a prescription fraud scheme totaling 17-million dollars. Dr. John Kirkpatrick and patient Roland Williams of Detroit allegedly recruited people to act as patients and issue them drugs they didn't need. Kirkpatrick only accepted cash at the Southfield Medical Services while Williams and others created fake medical records to make the patient's needs legitimate. In an indictment unsealed last week, prosecutors say Kirkpatrick handed over 574-thousand doses of controlled substances.
