Hundreds Pounce On Food Discarded By Texas Store Because Of Power Outage

Police in Austin, Texas are warning people who scavenged food from a dumpster outside a HEB grocery store on Sunday that it's not safe to eat. A misleading social media post referred to "free food" at the grocery store in southeast Austin, and 250 people showed up to fight over it, causing a local traffic problem. The HEB location had dumped the perishable foods because they were going bad during the power outage. As a result, the grocer couldn't donate the goods to food banks or food pantries.
