A Florida man is dead after being infected with what doctors say was an extremely rare, brain-eating amoeba. State health made the announcement over the weekend that the deadly infection might have been prompted by the victim's use of ordinary tap water as a sinus rinse, which can lead to a dangerous infection from a single-celled organism that lives in soil or freshwater sources such as lakes, rivers and hot springs. Health officials say only about three people get the infection in the U.S. each year. The infection is also typically fatal.
