Fla. Man Tries to Steal Plane & Immediately Crashes

A man was accused of breaking into a southwest Florida airport and trying to steal a plane on Monday. 43-year-old Bruce Plummer faces several charges in connection to the incident, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) told NBC affiliate WBBH. Plummer broke into two planes, according to LCSO, but could only get the second one to start.

Officials later found the plane off the runway, where it crashed into a fence and a pole. According to LCSO, he was caught on surveillance camera footage getting out of the plane at around midnight. He was accused of leaving the site of the crash. Officials found a gun and a tactical vest along the perimeter of the airport.

The firearm was registered to Plummer. He arrested at his Fort Myers home a few hours later. Plummer was charged with burglary, armed burglary, grand larceny and possession of bulletproof vest during a crime, according to Lee County jail records. He remained in jail on Tuesday and is due in court on April 1.
