A Nebraska woman got really lucky for a little while. According to reports, 45 year old Dawn Thompson discovered a glitch at her local Pump & Pantry gas station. Back in November of 2022, the gas stations pumps got a software update that apparently had a glitch that could be exploited. The glitch happened if you swiped your rewards card twice sending it into demo mode allowing you to pump gas for free. Dawn discovered this glitch and pumped some 7,413 gallons of gas totaling $27,860.27 over a six month period. Loss Prevention discovered the issue and tracked it down to Dawn's rewards card. Investigators allege that she not only got gas for herself, but was paid between $500 & $700 for "discounted fuel" to an unnamed woman. When questioned, Dawn said she got the rewards card from a man that used it to pay off a car debt, but that man can't be questioned because now he's dead, and that she sold the card back in June of 2023 right before the glitch was fixed. Dawn is in trouble for theft by unlawful taking and expected to be in court on April 11th.
