Man Dies After Florida Hospital Removes Wrong Organ

An Alabama man has died after the hospital he went to removed the wrong organ. The Pensacola News Journal says 70-year-old William Bryan of Muscle Shoals and his wife were visiting their condo in the Florida Panhandle last month when Bryan began feeling a sharp pain in his left side. He was admitted to a local hospital to have his spleen removed. Instead, doctors removed his liver by mistake. His family's lawyer says Bryan died of catastrophic blood loss, and called it "one of the most egregious cases of medical malpractice" that he's ever been involved with. The hospital says it doesn't comment on active litigation.
