Mayor of Seattle Names August 22 'Layne Staley Day'

Late Alice in Chains frontman Layne Staley officially has his own day in Seattle. Seattle mayor Jenny Durkan just declared Aug. 22, 2019 to be "Layne Staley Day." Glad to see this happen!

“Layne’s voice was legendary, and other musicians are heavily influenced by his instantly recognizable vocal style,” the official proclamation reads, via the KEXP website. “Layne tragically passed away after a long battle with substance use disorder, propelling his fans, friends, and family to advocate for addiction recovery and treatment.”

Staley would have turned 52 years old today on Aug. 22 of this year.
