Vanna White To Stop Turning Letters On 'Wheel' So She Can Be A Contestant

For 40 years, Vanna White has been turning letters on Wheel of Fortune, but on Wednesday (5/10), she will give up her post so that she can instead be a contestant on the iconic game show.

As part of Celebrity Wheel Of Fortune's Ultimate Host Night, Vanna will be facing off against Jeopardy hosts Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings. Taking her spot at the board will be Maggie Sajak, daughter of host Pat Sajak. In a promo for the upcoming show, Pat, who himself was at a loss having Vanna as a contestant, asked his co-host if it felt weird to see someone else in her usual spot. Vanna stated it did but kindly added, "Maggie thank you so much for filling in for me. I know you're going to do a great job."

Maggie is no stranger to the show - she is currently their social correspondent and as such can be seen all over their socials. This also won't be her first time turning letters. In November of 2019, Pat had to be rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery to fix a blocked intestine. Since the show had to go on, Vanna took his place as host and Maggie filled in for Vanna at the board.

Back then, Maggie explained how she trained for the role, saying, "[Vanna] gave me a little tutorial, like on our refrigerator, of how to press the letters and how hard to press them and all of that. She was so gracious in teaching me."

It might not be the only time Maggie is seen on the game show either - she is considered a frontrunner for taking over for her father after he retires. See how Vanna does as a contestant and how Maggie does at the board when Celebrity Wheel of Fortune: Ultimate Host Night airs tonight at 9 p.m. on ABC.

And don't worry, no matter how Vanna does on the show, after it, she will return to her usual spot turning letters.
