Are you having trouble sleeping? It gets a lot of people, my wife included. So if you're sick and tired of being...tired. These tips could help you get the rest you've been looking for.
If you're willing to try, sleep experts suggest these tips so YOU CAN SLEEP!!
- Diet - Eating a well-balanced diet full of whole foods, fiber, lean protein and healthy fats helps to support stable blood sugar levels and regulates hormones involved in sleep, according to Kaylor. Adding more protein can help, as research shows it can help with deeper sleep and sleep duration. Foods high in tryptophan, like eggs, oats and turkey, can also help increase melatonin production. And the experts advise finishing your last meal three hours before bed to help you sleep better.
- Exercise - Being active during the day can help us fall asleep faster and affect how long we sleep, but you don’t want to be hitting the gym just before bed. Davies explains that leaving about three hours after a workout before going to sleep is ideal, that way you have time to cool down and your core body temperature and heart rate are lower, which is better for sleep.
- Create and stick to a nighttime routine - It may sound boring, but having a routine that gets your body prepared for sleep actually helps. That includes not being on your screen for an hour before bed so you have time to relax and minimize blue light exposure.
- Keep a consistent sleep schedule - This means going to bed and waking up at the same time every day, which your body gets used to over time. Getting some natural light in the morning also helps you wake up and feel alert, and even helps you get more sleep at night.
- Create a comfy environment - Too much noise or light, or even lumpy pillows could be waking you up at night. Being comfortable in bed is essential, so make sure you have the right blankets, pillows and mattress, as well as the ideal sound and temperature in your bedroom to promote a long, good night’s sleep.
Sound too easy, but if you can't sleep what do you have to lose? Might be worth the try.
