Are We Going To Judge Robots By A Gender?

The reality of robots in our future is a pretty solid bet. Not a big deal for a lot of industries because they've been building cars forever. But sometimes seeing the advancement scares the crap out of me. Have you seen any of the Boston Dynamics robots videos on YouTube? Check it out.

So they move like us, can build like us, and worst of all they are WAY smarter than us. So do we need to identify them as a gender?

Researchers in University Park, Pennsylvania found that women who felt more powerless were more likely to trust male-looking robots over female-looking ones.

However, this bias wasn’t seen in women who felt powerful. When robots looked “cuter” and didn’t resemble a male or female in particular, the bias disappeared. Weird right Sarah Conner lol.

“For businesses that want to mitigate gender stereotypes, they can consider using a cute design for their robots,” a researcher said.

Have you seen the AI robot at Sphere/Orbi in Las Vegas? It actually talks to you and answers your questions and asks about you. She can identify your clothing, hair color and more and it's pretty trippy for real. Haven't seen it? Check it out.

I guess she is a SHE. Cool tricks before you see a show, but I can't be the only one that thinks calling the robots by a gender makes us a little too close to their takeover. But that my opinion. Would you need to know a robots gender before you let them in your home/business? I'll be over here alone prepping for the coming war with the robots. Totally kidding.......or am I?
