This is the time of year where excess is in full swing. There is food/drinks everywhere you turn, that's not just at work either. So how are you going to fight the battle of the bulge and more before it gets out of control?
Cut back a bit maybe? Sounds easy right? This seasons smartest hack could just be doing 50%. “TODAY” show fitness contributor and certified personal trainer Stephanie Mansour says the 50% rule could save you a LOT this season.
Here’s what the 50% rule looks like in practice:
- Enjoy half the usual desserts instead of skipping them entirely. Break treats in half so you can savor them without feeling like you overdid it. This is big if you have a sweet tooth for sure.
- Do half your usual workout time when your schedule is packed. Maybe when you're busy, you do a 15 minute session because it still gives you the boos in energy when you can't do your 30 minute workout.
- Cut your planned holiday drinks in half. Estimate what you’d normally have, then aim for 50% of that to avoid hangovers. You can still enjoying the moment of the party, just do it with less booze so you don't feel like crap the day after.
- Apply the same mindset to any goal that feels too big. Halving the target makes it more achievable and keeps motivation high during a busy season.
Think of the 50% rule as your seasonal survival kit. Do it right and you’ll be able to enjoy the holidays without falling short on your health goals/weight loss goals.
A little less pressure might be the best gift you give yourself this season.
