When was the first time you took your kids on a vacation? I think my daughter was just born and it took us 3 hours to drive to get out of the city because it was a nightmare. Things forgotten, diaper changes, you name it. It was NOT the meaning of a vacation. But she was happy to see her grandparents and we wouldn't change all of the stress for anything looking back. But at the time it sucked bad.
But when should you take your kids on a vacation? Do you start from birth? Should you wait till they can drink with you? Well, this should shed some light on your/our questions.
A study of 2000 parents found that family vacations become most enjoyable when children reach eight years old!!
What was i thinking taking a baby on a road trip? Well, worth it looking back like I said.
The study also found kids start forming lasting vacation memories at 8 years old, while 64% say children show genuine excitement about new destinations. The things parents look for most with their kids and vacations? Family suitable locations, and good weather and fun. Flash forward, I have an 11 year old who has been to Las Vegas 12 times and loves it there. So fun for all.
Now the ladies in my life (wife and daughter) always ask about pools, beaches and other tropical stuff. So wait for the real tuff trips as your kids get older. The most significant family travel milestone is taking the first international trip together, and if you can survive that, you can make it through anything.
Safe travels to you if you have a vacation coming up soon!!
