In 2001 Nick Burchill was staying at the Fairmont Empress Hotel in British Columbia while he was attending a business meeting. He brought some pepperoni from his hometown to share with some Navy buddies that lived in the area. Since the room did not have a refrigerator he opened a window to keep it cool, and then went for a long walk. While he was gone seagulls came into the room to eat the meat and completely destroyed the room. He said when he walked into the room the birds “immediately started flying around and crashing into things as they desperately tried to leave the room.” There was seagull poop, feathers, pepperoni chunks, broken lamps and the curtains were trashed. Nick called the front desk to help clean up the room, he was then moved to a smaller room. Sometime later Nick employer received a note from the hotel saying he’d been banned for life. So 17 years later Nick returned to the hotel to apologize in person. Although, the person that had to clean the mess no longer worked there. The manager had heard the story from a long time employee. So nick said sorry and gave a peace offering of about a pound of Brothers TNT Pepperoni. The hotel manager encouraged him to stay at that hotel the next time he is in town.
