Teacher Won't Be Charged For Drowning Animals

Dewie Brewton

In Ocala Florida, the AG teacher at the high school has recently retired after being under fire for the way he got rid of three nuisance animals. Dewie Brewton had been working for the Marion County School District for 31 years before the incident. Apparently the teacher and students had been raising chicks for class, when two raccoons and a possum had gotten in and killed some of them. Mr. Brewton then set up traps to catch the predators. Mr. Brewton then filled a 55 gallon trash can to the brim with water, and dropped the caged animals into the watery grave, all while students were gathered around watching. He told them not to record or take pictures, and if they did, they would get a referral. Mr. Brewton said he had no other way to get rid of them. Investigators say that the killings weren't cruel or inhumane, and that he didn't intend to torture or torment the animals. He was suspended for the actions, but retired two days later.
