Boy Died Weighing 18 Pounds After Neglect

An autopsy for an Arizona boy shows that he weighed just 18 pounds when he died from extreme neglect. Six-year-old Deshaun Martinez had brittle hair, sunken eyes, no body fat and various abrasions when he was found unresponsive in a Flagstaff apartment. His parents, Elizabeth Archibeque and Anthony Martinez, were taken into custody, along with his grandmother Ann Martinez. The three of them were charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and child abuse. The couple has apparently admitted to locking Deshaun and his seven-year-old brother in a closet for 16 hours a day for a month, during which both boys were given little to eat. The boy eventually died of starvation. Deshaun's three other siblings have been put in the custody of the state Department of Child Safety.
