Hospital Mix-Up Leads To Man Having Wrong Leg Amputated

A hospital in Austria is admitting that an elderly patient had the wrong leg amputated due to what they're calling a "human error." The 82-year-old went in to have his left leg removed on Tuesday. However, the Freistadt Clinic says a hospital worker put a preoperative mark on the right leg, which was actually the wrong one. The mistake wasn't discovered until Thursday morning during a standard wound dressing change, and the man had to have his other leg amputated afterwards. The surgeon who performed the procedure isn't on duty currently, which the hospital says is at her own request.
