A Florida man has failed in trying to get out of animal cruelty charges by using the "stand your ground" defense for killing an iguana. PJ Nilaja Patterson is accused of beating, dragging, and kicking a three-foot iguana, resulting in its death last year. Patterson's attorneys attempted to have the charge dismissed by citing the state's "stand your ground" law that says deadly force can be used under certain life-saving circumstances. They claimed Patterson was trying to keep the iguana from being hit by a car, but it bit him when he tried to move it. The judge denied the motion.
