Miriam Travis was a retired Los Angeles country homicide detective who retired in 1990. This past Sunday she was found dead at the age of 87 in a freezer in her home. An Oklahoma relative of hers identified the body in a phone interview and said that her and her daughter Carol were obsessively private. Neighbors said that she hadn't been in months and that she kept to herself after her health started declining. Another relative of hers called for a welfare check and that's what prompted the search of the home. When police arrived they described the house as disheveled with hoarding like conditions with trash piled high. Officers said the house had a foul odor, and eventually found her stuffed in a freezer in her garage. They questioned the daughter Carol whose answers on Miriam's whereabouts were inconsistent. They released her while they investigate to see what role if any she played in her mother's death.
