A new study suggests recreational marijuana use is associated with a higher risk of emergency room care and hospitalization for any reason. The study looked at data from national health records on more than 30-thousand Canadian residents between the ages of 12 and 65 over several years. Marijuana users were 22 percent more likely than those who did not use marijuana to visit an emergency room or to be hospitalized. Physical injury was the leading cause of emergency room visits and hospitalizations among marijuana users. Respiratory reasons came in second.
