Authorities in Australia say a thief who broke into the monkey enclosure at a city park to scoop coins from a pond might have exposed themselves to "potentially fatal" herpes. The City of Launceton, on the Island of Tasmania, issued a press release after the break-in last week, urging the thief to seek immediate medical attention. The city said the monkeys in the park, like most of their species around the world, carry the herpes virus that can cause a number of symptoms to humans which can lead to death. The mayor says the thief damaged an electric fence and stole coins that visitors throw into the moat surrounding the monkeys.
