100 Pounds Of Cheese Destroyed By Border Patrol

Last week, an American citizen from Albuquerque tried smuggle some 100 pounds of cheese in from Mexico at the El Paso border. The woman originally declared 10 wheels of cheese, but as border patrol agents searched her car, they found 50 more wheels hidden under blankets in the back of her car. The driver was fined $1,000 and released. As for the 50 extra wheels...agents seized the cheese and destroyed it according to existing guidelines. Officials say that you can import cheese for personal consumption, but 60 wheels of cheese would be a commercial amount and that additional reporting requirements would apply.
