An elderly couple and a local police officer are recovering after being injured in a dog attack. It happened around noon Sunday along the 600-block of Nelson Street in Rocky Mount. Authorities say a pitbull attacked an 82-year old man and his 78-year old wife, before turning and biting a police officer in the thigh. The officer shot the animal twice before his owner arrived to restrain him. The couple's injuries are described as severe. The dog survived the shooting and was transported to a nearby veterinary clinic. No word on if he will be euthanized.
