Prosecutors in Northern California are thanking the family of Kristin Smart for providing inspiration after a guilty verdict for the man accused of her death.
Jurors in Salinas finding Paul Flores guilty of first-degree murder in the case that captured the attention of the nation. Smart disappeared after a party at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1996. Her body has never been found. Sheriff's officials say the case will not truly be over until her remains are recovered. Ruben Flores, Paul's father, was found not guilty after being charged as an accessory. Sentencing for Paul Flores is set for December 9th.
San Luis Obispo county sheriff Ian Parkinson says for him and his team, there is still work to be done.
Kristin's father Stan Smart thanked prosecutors and investigators for their hard work but said the conviction is bitter-sweet.
