A woman is charged with felonious assault after police said she cut up a man’s arm early Sunday morning with a sword. 25-hear-old Xhyaire Smith has yet to be arraigned on the charge, a second-degree felony, after she was arrested when police were called about 12:15 a.m. Sunday to a home on Hamilton Street for a report of unknown trouble and found a drunken man on the front porch bleeding heavily from his arm.
Reports said the man was so drunk he could not tell police what happened, so he was placed in a cruiser as paramedics were on the way to treat him. He was eventually taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. Reports said there was a large amount of blood on the porch and in the driveway, and when they made their way inside, they saw Smith being restrained by a man. Police also saw several drops of blood on the carpet in the home, reports said.
Reports said the man who was restraining Smith told police that Smith and the victim began arguing and the man tried to get his things and leave. Smith grabbed “her sword,” reports said, and the victim tried to disarm her, the man told police. The two began to struggle and the man was cut several times on his arm, reports said. After several minutes, the injured man was able to grab the sword and throw it into the yard. Reports said police found the sword and it had blood on it.
