A man is recovering well after receiving a kidney transplant from a pig. Massachusetts surgeons are calling Rick Slayman a "real hero" for agreeing to try the groundbreaking operation this week. Slayman had a previously failed human kidney transplant and said he decided to go forward with the procedure because "I saw it not only as a way to help me, but a way to provide hope for the thousands of people who need a transplant to survive." There's currently a massive shortage of human donor organs, and researchers hope animal donors may help. The pig kidney doctors used was genetically modified to reduce the risk of rejection.
