A visitor whose husband died while snorkeling off Maui does not believe his death was a drowning, as she was told. Michigan resident Patricia Johnson is now suing the Fairmont Kea Lani resort, the Hawaii Tourism Authority and the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau. Her 64-year-old husband, Ray, died of what was deemed an accidental drowning in February of 2022. Johnson says her husband was talking with friends who were snorkeling with him and was diving down underwater. At one point, he came up and told his friends he was having trouble breathing, then collapsed and died. Johnson believes her husband actually died from Rapid Onset Pulmonary Edema.
