Lawyer Accused Of Stealing $1.7M From Dead Client To Gamble

Addiction is a bitch!!! Jason Penrod of Family Elder Law Firm in Florida was recently busted for gambling away the trust fund of a dead client in Tampa. According to reports, he was under investigation after he was found to have stolen $1,705,000 from the Living Trust of the client and spent it at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino there in Tampa. Detectives found out that he went to Pennsylvania to confess to the family, and t hat he wrote a letter stating that he was dealing with personal and mental stress, and to deal with it he would gamble. He said that his addiction got so bad that he squandered away all of his family's savings, along with his law firm's profits. He went on to explain that he would transfer funds from their trust to his personal account just to gamble. His bank records show that he wired $1.2 million to the casino and also withdrew $24,511.45 from the casino's ATM machines. A former associate is the one that turned him in to the state's bar association. He has since reported himself to the state's Supreme Court for misuse of funds from two client's trusts. Detectives are still investigating his finances.
